Changes to the Blue Badge parking scheme will be introduced from 1 January 2012.
These changes are part of the Government's national Blue Badge reform programme which has been developed in consultation with disabled service users, local authorities and other interest groups.
The changes will improve the administration of the Blue Badge scheme, help prevent counterfeits, identify illegal use of the badges whilst ensuring genuine users benefit from the scheme.
From the 1 January 2012, there will be:
- A new design for Blue Badges, which incorporates an anti fraud hologram to help reduce theft and fraud
- An on-line application facility - so that customers get their Blue Badge more quickly
- A £10.00 charge, which covers the production, issue and postage of the new badge
Customers who have an existing badge can continue to use it until it expires.
