What is Housing Related Support?
Housing Related Support:
- is time limited
- is lower level support
- is aimed at helping vulnerable people regain, maintain or achieve independent living
- is not limited to any type of housing
- can be delivered in a supported accommodation setting (accommodation based support)
- can also be delivered in your own home, (floating support)
The purpose of this support is to enable people to remain living in their home in the community for as long as possible, or to help people to move onto more independent living.
This support is provided through several voluntary organisations and also by Newham council in its sheltered services.
Accommodation based support can include a refuge for women fleeing domestic abuse or supported accommodation for people with a learning disability or mental health issue.
Housing Related Support could help you to learn to manage your day to day living so that you can become or stay independent. Support workers can help you to access opportunities and learn to do activities that are important for independence.
- getting a job
- managing your home or tenancy
- paying your bills
- managing your health.
Housing Related Support is NOT personal care and will not help you with tasks such as:
It is therefore not suitable for people with personal care needs. If you need this type of help you need to access a social care service.
Who can access Housing Related Support?
People who might benefit from accessing a Housing Related Support service may include people with:
- a Mental Health support need
- a Learning Disability
Who can make a referral to Housing Related Support?
Referrals to Housing Related Support services are made through the Access to Adults Social Care Team. Services are only available to Newham residents assessed as having a Housing Related Support need.
