What is Self Directed Support?

Self Directed Support is a new way to provide adult social care services. It gives you more choice, flexibility and independence about how your support is organised; you are in control.

It allows you to have much more choice and control over your assessment and services, enabling you to choose the types of services that best help to achieve your desired outcomes.

Please see our separate ' Self Directed Support in Newham' leaflet that provides more information on how Self Directed Support can work for you.

Self Directed Support and Individual Budgets

How does Self Directed Support Work?

People who are eligible for social care support are able to complete a self assessment and, following agreement from the Council, are offered an individual budget to purchase support from a personal carer, or other goods and services, to meet their needs

This is a legal right that you have and extends to some housing and employment funding streams as well because Newham is part of a National Right to Control Programme.

Step 4 - Getting your plan agreed

Step 5 - Managing your individual budget (you can get help with this)

Step 6 - Arranging your support (you can do this yourself or with help)
